The Best Hotel Wedding Venues In London According To Luxury Wedding Planner Poppy Sienna

Award-winning wedding and event planner Poppy Sienna shares her top venue choices in the capital, plus the secrets to planning bespoke celebrations at London's most iconic addresses.

Luxury London hotel wedding venues

According to Poppy Sienna, an award-winning wedding planner, hotel wedding venues In London are very hard to beat when it comes to customer experience. "I adore the high level of service that you get from London wedding venues, especially hotels. Often, before I've even asked for something, it's done or at the very least it's done within a matter of minutes! You are, of course, less likely to get exclusive use of these hotels compared to traditional wedding venues, but I always find you forget anyone else it at the hotel, especially as you often have private entrances."

Poppy started in the wedding planning industry as a wedding coordinator for private venues, before launching her own business at what she feared was the worst time. "I started off in catering and then worked my way up, working as a wedding coordinator at local wedding venues and freelancing with other wedding planners. I then took the plunge with my own business in March of 2020 (great timing!), but it worked out so well. I was able to network with so many incredible suppliers."

Despite having planned hundreds of weddings across the country in her career, she has a soft spot for hotel wedding venues In London. In fact, a professional high for Poppy occurred at an iconic hotel in the centre of town. "I think my career highlight would be one of my very first hotel weddings at The Savoy, when I was very early on in my career — it felt like such a monumental 'I made it' moment!"

Poppy Sienna on some of the most memorable London hotel weddings she's planned...

We plan a lot of London weddings for couples flying in from other countries, often the USA, who are having a 'destination wedding,' where most guests are also coming in from overseas.

Most recently, we had a beautiful wedding at The Fitzrovia Chapel (the ceremony) and The NoMad (the reception). We planned a romantic weekend wedding, which started on the Friday with a welcome dinner and drinks, with all guests meeting at The NoMad and taking a red bus (iconic!) to a traditional London pub where the canapés and drinks were in full flow.

Saturday was the actual wedding day — our bride and groom were simply the coolest of couples, and the Fitzrovia Chapel was the only place to go for their ceremony. Again, using a vintage red bus to transport guests to and from the venues. We had the most intimate ceremony taken by a good friend. Arriving back at The NoMad after, candles adorned the tables to bring the cosiest but most elegant look to the day. Friends took care of the music with two of the most talented American DJs (who I must fly over for more of my weddings!), and the party was one to remember!

Another unforgettable London hotel wedding venue was The Corinthia, which held our final wedding of the year last year (2024). It was for a UK/Dubai couple who wanted an elegant affair for 100 of their nearest and dearest. With Christmas having just been, we wanted to touch on this festive time of year but keep the elegant feel of the day, so again, a mix of candles and blousy flowers was used to bring the atmosphere, and the daintiest of bows were added to each place setting, which truly enhanced the look.

I could go on, as each wedding we do truly is so special and unique to the couple!

On how far in advance to book a hotel for a wedding venue...

Once you find your perfect wedding venue, booking the hotel should typically be on your to do list 12 to 18 months before your wedding date. While securing a hotel wedding venue is possible on shorter notice, availability decreases significantly the closer you get to your desired date.

On 3 key elements to consider when picking your hotel wedding venue...

1. Ceremony space distance

Are you wanting to get married on-site or at another location? If you're having a church or registry office wedding off-site, then location is key, as traffic in London is a big consideration — you really don't want to have a long journey post-ceremony where you're all stuck in gridlock! Choose a venue relatively close to the ceremony location.

2. Room availability at the venue

Some smaller venues require you to flip the room from ceremony to dinner and then to party. These changeovers are always very smooth and streamlined, but it does mean you need a second drinks reception in between the dinner and party, which is a really lovely opportunity for some speeches, and/or cake cutting, or a champagne tower. However, some couples really do want to get straight on the dance floor post-dinner, so it's good to check with venue whether you'll need to do a room flip post-dinner, and if so, how does that work for your timeline and overall flow of the day?

3. Sound limits and finish times

Some hotels have sound limits due to the hotel rooms above event spaces, etc. Keep an eye out to make sure that the finish time isn't too early for your plans. Also make a note of the sound limit so you can pass this across to your band/DJ to check before you book.

On personalising a hotel wedding so that it’s unique to you...

As a lot of guests will be staying at the hotel, I recommend providing welcome bags that are ready for them upon arrival. This is a lovely, personal touch and often includes local produce or items related to your wedding theme — for example, a mini afternoon tea provided by the venue.

For personal elements on your actual wedding day, I'd suggest making use of entertainment in each part of your wedding venue, e.g. ceremony, drinks reception, dinner and evening, to ensure that your guests are all kept together in each space and are taken from room to room seamlessly, guided by music.

I often recommend avoiding wedding favors and instead putting that expense towards other suppliers (where you can see the value), or only providing something useful to your wedding guests. For example, a candle of your wedding scent is something no one would dislike. Something with both your names on is usually something to avoid!

On the 3 tasks that will make your wedding day unforgettable...

1. Schedule a venue walkthrough to go over final details

One of the ways you can ensure your big day goes perfectly is with a thorough run-through with the wedding venue. Ideally this is done in person 4–8 weeks prior to the wedding day. Doing this means that many of the small details are checked and ticked off, it makes sure everyone is on the same page.

2. Hire help for on the say support

If you don't have a wedding planner, I recommend, at the very least, hiring an on-the-day coordinator (a service we offer, in addition to our full planning service). This means we take all your plans and bring them to life, ensuring everything goes as planned! My team and I would be there on the day to ensure set-up goes smoothly, guests are in the right places at the right time, and no small detail is forgotten! Couples plan their day for such a long time, and while hotel wedding venues in London are wonderfu,l and their teams are often simply fantastic, having someone who can solely focus on the details of the day is invaluable!

3. Have a wedding gift list

Wedding registry services make life much easier and avoid all the anticipated questions before the wedding, and the painful logistics after! Guests love gift lists — typically, they're likely to buy a present well in advance of the wedding, so including gift list information on your wedding website or invitations means they can take their time browsing your wedding gift ideas or contributing to a honeymoon fund. The Wedding Shop is the UK's most trusted wedding gift list service, so I always recommend them to my couples.

On wedding trends...

We've seen bows becoming a big trend over the past year, and I see that continuing into 2025 weddings.

Music always adds another depth to the day, and so I also predict that all-day live music will become the must-have wedding entertainment. Think roaming bands during the drinks reception that take you through to dinner, singing during the meal and then moving through to the party.

Another trend we're noticing is couples introducing luxury personalised elements that are actually useful. Gone are the days of personalised magnets or bottle openers as wedding favours — now, well-thought-out table plans with luxury items guiding guests to their seats are the way forward, and these items are as useful as they are beautiful. For example, sunglasses at an al fresco wedding. Personalised notes to all the guests are becoming popular too. These notes can remind guests why they have a seat at the table, how long they have known the couple, or explain who else is at their table.

And speaking of gifts, current trends show that many couples consider the best wedding gifts to be honeymoon funds, candles (a popular choice for creating a beautifully scented home), or unique wedding gifts they might not typically purchase themselves, such as stylish wine glasses or marble wine coolers.
